....but between the rugged rocks (and ragged rascals) there are some spectacular beaches. Lonely too at the right time of year.

This picture was taken in late November. Miles of empty beach and a cold Atlantic wind.

Sure it looks good during the summer, and is always busy. But there's something about the wilder weather that has a definite appeal.

My footsteps were the only ones on the beach that day.

If you're looking for sandy beaches, then there is Sandymouth, just north of Bude. Miles of the stuff at low tide.

If you are willing to do a bit of rock hopping and sea wading you can find all sorts of interesting things, including bits of ships. This is Hartland Point, and one ship that clearly didn't see the lighthouse shown top left. Doesn't do to get too close to this coastline.  

 
       
Nice as Cornwall and Devon is, there are other places I like in the UK too. In particular mountains. But for those, you have to go north.
